How to Post on Instagram

Instagram is one of the best social media platforms to connect with your consumers, build brand awareness, and promote your products. If you haven’t added Instagram to your marketing strategy, now is a great time to start! We know starting with social media can be intimidating at first, so we’ve created a step-by-step guide to help you post on Instagram.

Step #1 Choose the type of post and select photo(s). First, hit the plus sign on the bottom center of the screen, then slide over to post. Scroll through to find your photo or photos. To select your content for multiple pictures, tap the circle with the two squares inside, then your photos. On this page, you can fit your photo to size. Once everything is selected, tap ‘Next.’

Step #2 Edit and Adjust Your Content On this page, you can scroll through the different preset filters or tap edit. On the edit tab, tap on brightness and drag the circle to the right to make it lighter and the left to make it darker. All of the edit features work the same, where you just drag the circle either way to make the changes. Once it’s to your liking, hit ‘Next.’

Step #3 Writing The Caption First, tap the write caption box. You want a catchy attention-grabber for the opening sentence. This sentence is a great place to use emojis. Instagram does allow for long-form captions, but for marketing purposes, you’ll want to have bite-sized information that points to somewhere for more info. If doing long-form, break it into chunks with either periods between or emoji bullet points. Make sure to end your caption with a call to action, as this is where you boost engagement by pointing followers to your website or telling them to follow your account.

Step #4 Hashtags Using hashtags is a great way to get your content on the feed of your target audience who doesn’t necessarily follow you yet. A suggested number is 3-5 strong hashtags is the best. Make sure to use rich keywords that are relevant to your niche and the content. You also want to select hashtags that have a lot of posts connected to them already.

Step #5 Tagging People, Productions, and Places Tags are great for SEO and to connect with people relevant to the topic or involved in the photo. Tap tag people, then search for the user’s name you want to tag. Then tap products and search or select the product that is featured in the photo. This will take people to purchase the product right in the app. Lastly, tap add location and search for the location where the photo is taken or of your target market.

Step #6 Publishing There are a few things to select before publishing. First, you can boost your post if you want more viewers; this option costs money. You can also publish your post to Facebook simultaneously by tapping ‘Share to Other’ and selecting the connected Facebook account. Lastly, you can share later by tapping advanced settings, ‘schedule this post,’ then selecting the date and time you want, and hitting ‘done’. The quickest way to publish is just tap share, and your post will be up!
